Use Fabric and Trim to Bring New Life into your Home

April 15, 2012 in Design Tips

The fabric and trim industry is booming. With pattern choices alone ranging from tweed, texture, stripes, squares, solid, circles, diamonds, frame, leaves, scroll to floral the possibilities are endless. Using fabric and trim is an easy and inexpensive way to bring together all of the basics of your room. You could incorporate a pop of color and give your room just the right touch of drama. Combining patterns, styles and different textures can be incorporated through a simple fabric change or addition in everything from window treatments, accessories and furniture.

Spring is the perfect season to bring life back into your home interior.  Pillows add color, pattern and texture to a room. They soften the hard edges of furniture and create a more inviting space. They can be very elegant, simple or fun. Another fun idea is to use a unique fabric on a footstool or even a side, hallway or console table.

Upholstered headboards inspires beauty in the bedroom and is one of 2012′s hottest design trends. Designers are using all kinds of fabrics and textures and are implementing classic designs with unique trim or studs.

Fabric and trim are used often to reupholster that old comfy chair that has been in the family for years. Maybe it’s a piece that has been inherited from your mother, grandmother or favorite aunt. It can be very satisfying to restore an old piece that is part of your family history. Keep in mind, vertical stripes add height, horizontal stripes add width or length to your room. Bold patterned fabric make an area appear smaller, while smaller designs create a spacious look. Bold designs and colors are welcoming.

Whatever you decide to use your new fabric on, have fun, get creative and enjoy!

We are so excited to announce our brand new Quarterly Drawing! We are going to be awarding $250.00 worth of any in stock fabrics or trims or $250.00 towards any purchase from Ambrose Furniture Works!!!!! The drawing will be held July 1, 2012. Traditional Interior Design Style with Southern Comfort

February 27, 2012 in Design Tips

A traditional style of design is ageless and reflects ‘a time gone by’. With a traditional interior space you will find heavier furniture, symmetrical arrangements with a good sense of proportion. Our interior design experts will tell you, it’s the best way to develop order and elegance without losing comfort. Add in a southern touch an suddenly you’ve created a gracious invitation.

Decoration with a Traditional Southern sense emphasizes comfort, hospitality and warmth with a respect and reverence of our past.

Every good Traditional Southern designed home should have all forms of American furniture, especially in the dining room. Something wicker is a must. Wicker furniture was originally created in response to Southern climate, now it is used to keep formal rooms from being to formal. Take time to ask for design consultation before picking out that big comfy chair or sumptuous wing chair. Look for the perfect chandelier, banquettes, daybeds and large useful coffee tables.

Capturing the right colors will set the tone and mood. In wood finishes, traditional cherry and mahogany dominate. Your decor should include antique white, cream, navy blue, deft blue, gray, peach, rose, tan, brick red, gold and billiard green. For the walls, many paint manufacturers offer historic paint collections that make matching these color palettes very easy.

Traditional doesn’t have to mean dull, aged, formal or fussy. You can make your old new again. You can update a classic heirloom to fit your current lifestyle. Consider reupholstering your heirloom sofa or chair with a beautiful new fabric. A good designer can even add wood elements or embellishments.

Get inspired and let your history shine through in your Traditional Southern decor.

Norwalk Furniture has just announced their 2011 Fall Color Trends!!

October 24, 2011 in Design Tips

Norwalk Furniture was founded in 1902. With one-of-a-kind designs, each piece of furniture is custom made and hand-built in the U.S.A. Beautiful looks, rich fabrics, soft leathers and deep comfort, that’s Norwalk!

We recently had the opportunity to visit the factory and meet up with Candice Olson who has partnered with Norwalk Furniture to create Candice Olson Designs. Wow, we were totally blown away by the hard work, time and attention to every detail the individuals who make the furniture put in. This explains the gorgeous craftsmanship on the finished pieces!

Okay, now for what you’ve been waiting for:

Fall Color Trends -

1. Color block:  “Bright neon and candy colors are mixed with ghost white or midnight black for a crisp simplicity and witty punch.

2. Wild @ Heart: “A happy poetic and zany modern mix!  A dash of peony pink and spring green peppered with a healthy dose of romance, femininity and fantasy.”

3. Global Hues:  “World-wise, exotic, and collected, but grounded with European textures of linen and velvet, Global Hues combines the sophisticated warming tones of plum, violet, raisin, and raspberry.”

4. Indigo Vibe:  “An unexpected mix of blues ranging from royal to sapphire and accented with the crispness of snow.  Silver metals, pearlized leathers, and energetic mix of patterns, and white wood finishes all contribute to this timeless aesthetic.”

5. Dots & Dashes: “With roots in menswear, this trend retains a decidedly urban edge with its fun metal, graphite and slate grey color base, gets its energy from a liberal punch of citron and Anjou.”

New Fashion Design Tips and Trends to update the look of your Home!

October 10, 2011 in Design Tips

Style your home to impress easily by adapting some of these up-to-date fashion trends.

Old is New! Vintage designed rooms are definitely “in” again. You can get new upholstery for the old strong chair and recliner frames from the 1950′s, and you’ll end up right back in style.

Another way to make a design statement is with wall papers in the vintage theme. With a wide selection available, there’s no doubt you’ll find one that will fit your theme.

You may have noticed how many more metal wall pieces are being applied inside and on the exteriors of homes. More people are willing to purchase these modern metal pieces because they are easy to remove and be re-installed if a home owner moves.

Picking the right light fixture can make or break the look of your room. Lighting fixtures can play a major part in setting up the theme for your room and hanging lamps are the latest fashion to update your look.

Introduce playful colors such as orange, lime green, red and coffee brown for outdoor furniture and decor. Indoors, pops of color add a whole new dimension and can tie a room together, but a neutral color palette can give a sophisticated and classy appearance to the house.

Style trends show that the Pantone Color of the year for 2011 is Honeysuckle Pink and is described as vibrant, energetic and a color for all seasons, even Fall.

It is never too late to create beautiful improvements to the look of your house. Stop by Ambrose Furniture Works and visit our showroom for some fresh inspired ideas and create your own stylish house that will have heads turning!
